Education

Education in the field of sustainable food production
Nature is not only a place of beauty and recreation but also a vital ecosystem crucial for our survival. Insects, mites and beneficial fungi and bacteria all play indispensable roles in producing healthy and safe food. This means that use of chemical pesticides, harmful to these beneficial organisms should be avoided as much as possible and proper care should be taken of the soil in which many of these species thrive. By supporting these natural allies, we can ensure the production of delicious, healthy fruit and vegetables while safeguarding the well-being of people and the planet.

At the Koppert Foundation, we believe that education is the cornerstone of a sustainable future. By fostering awareness and sharing knowledge across all age groups—from young children to seasoned professionals—we empower individuals and communities to make informed choices about food production and its impact on the planet. Through engaging programmes, meaningful partnerships, and community-driven initiatives, we actively involve stakeholders from every corner of society, emphasising that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Through our education initiatives our aim is to inspire the next generation of changemakers.

'We can be 'good' for the planet by inspiring each other at work and sharing what we are doing with ourfamilies, communities and the outside world.’

A collaborative effort to advance sustainable agriculture in Burundi

12/18/2024

This week, the Koppert Foundation hosted a visit from the Ambassador of Burundi, H.E. Mrs. Isabelle Ndahayo. Organized in collaboration with CABI, the visit aimed to explore and promote biocontrol solutions - for both commercial and non-commercial purposes - to address Burundi's agricultural challenges and promote plant health. Burundi, one of the world’s poorest nations, presents a unique opportunity to leapfrog the traditional reliance on chemical pesticides, which have historically been unavailable to its growers. This opens the door for the country to adopt biological pest management practices directly, aligning with sustainable agricultural principles.
